The Flash is iconic in comics as the fastest man alive. He is a founding member of the Justice League and one of the lighter DC Heroes in terms of his humor. He is not as serious as Batman and definitely more personable than Superman. Flash is someone whose power fluctuates from being able to go really fast to being able to go back in time.
John Wall came into the NBA with a lot of hype after his lone season at Kentucky. He was easily taken number 1 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards and has turned into one of the best point guards in the NBA. He is coming off his best season as a pro after finishing in career highs in points per game at 23, assists per game at 10.7, and steals per game at 2. His season was capped off by being named to the All NBA 3rd team and leading the Wizards to a game 7 against Boston that would have sent them to the Eastern Conference Finals had they won.
John Wall is fast. He is one of the fastest players in the NBA and he uses that speed to his advantage. He pushes the pace and is a great passer. Just like the Flash, John Wall uses his super speed to help his team win. The Flash is one of the most powerful heroes in DC and John Wall is becoming one of the better point guards in the NBA. However, just like the Flash is under the radar as people talk about Batman and Superman, Wall is also not mentioned as one of the better point guards in the league without the mention of guys like Steph Curry, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook first.
In one of the best Flash story arcs, Flashpoint, Flash runs back in time to stop something bad from happening and ends up altering the world. He cannot believe what he has done and tries to find a way to change it realizing that he will have to allow bad things to transpire to the people he cares about in order to restore the timeline. This story reminds me of this summer for John Wall. Instead of trying to pursue a different team, Wall decided to stick with Washington and allow them to over pay Otto Porter and bring back the same team they had last year minus a couple of key bench guys, while Boston significantly improved. It would have been interesting to see the Flashpoint Wall would have created had he decided to push for a better situation in Washington.
The Flash is a strong hero, but he does have a weakness. If you slow down the Flash, he is beatable. In the same way, by slowing down the game, John Wall becomes a different player that dare I say is not that great. Wall's "not that great" is still better than the majority of the league, but in the half court he becomes a less efficient player that cannot do the things that he is able to do in transition. He is not a great shooter and teams can load up in the paint forcing him to allow other guys to try and beat them. John Wall has to become better in the half court for Washington to get over the hump.
The Flash combats his opponents with pure speed. He is not overcome easily by their tricks to slow him down. He finds a way to win even if it means just going faster. John Wall is in the same boat. He has to find a way to overcome the attempts by teams to slow him down in the playoffs. He has to add to his game and become a better shooter in order to truly make it to the next level. With his talent, he will find a way to lead his team. With the disfunction in Cleveland, Washington could easily find themselves in the conference finals against Boston and with the Flash anything is possible.
