Our first super villain spot goes to DeMarcus Cousins. DeMarcus Cousins is an absolute monster on the court, but he also seems to be somewhat of a monster off of it. Trouble has plagued him since his first day in the NBA. He clashed with head coaches, had trouble with opposing broadcasters, and even had spats with teammates. It all came to a head last season when he was traded from Sacramento to New Orleans and people within the Sacramento organization did not care what they got in the trade they were just happy to see him go. All of this off court drama and issues did not affect DeMarcus' game on the court and he blossomed into one of the best big men in the league with a mean streak and skills mixed with power to back it up. DeMarcus is unstoppable much like his super villain comparison, the Juggernaut.
Cain Marko is the step brother of Professor X and grows up with a huge chip on his shoulder because of his own father's love for Xavier and his hatred of his own son. Marko discovers a ruby gem inside of a cave that grants him powers enabling him to become the Juggernaut. Armed with super strength, Juggernaut uses his new found power to get revenge on everyone who wronged him, intentionally or not. His hatred for Professor X leads him to numerous clashes with the X-Men in an effort to destroy his step brother.
Juggernaut is unstoppable much like DeMarcus Cousins who added a 3 point shot to his game last season and is apparently in the best shape of his life coming into this new season. He is coming off of his best season as a pro averaging 28 and 12 while shooting 36% from 3. Can DeMarcus finally turn all of that talent into wins? His record in the NBA is 179-308 in the games that he has played. Has the losing affected him? Can he win in the NBA or is he going to be one of those amazing players that never makes it to a winning team?
He can win, winning 35 games in his one college season at UK, which by the way is more games than he has won in any single NBA season. All of this may not be Cousins' fault. He was drafted to the Sacramento Kings and faced a ridiculous amount of transition in his time in Sacramento including the possible moving of the team. It also did not help that they got a new coach almost every season and the roster turnover was outrageous. Why would anyone feel stable and secure in that environment? However, now Cousins is in New Orleans playing with Anthony Davis. He cannot say that he is not playing with another superstar.
In an interesting storyline, Juggernaut joined the X-Men and was really trying to change his ways. However, the stone that gives him power rebelled at his new change of character and he was forced to return to evil. Will DeMarcus Cousins have the chance to join the X-Men and win or is he destined to be one of the villains in the NBA that puts up amazing numbers on bad teams? Based on all accounts, Cousins is a good guy, but so far in the NBA all he has to show for it are a lot of losses and a terrible reputation. Hopefully, he is able to turn it around and get to a good team in his upcoming free agency next summer. We will see.
