James Harden is a great basketball player. The Houston Rockets had an amazing season despite lower expectations coming into the season. However, Harden had one of the best offensive seasons we have ever seen in basketball while leading his team to 55 wins before losing to the Spurs in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Harden did everything for the Rockets, he played point guard, he was their main scorer, and he took the blame for their defeat in the playoffs. Say what you will about Harden, but when he gets hot he can turn an entire game around.
The Human Torch is a member of the Fantastic Four. Johnny Storm is the brother of the Invisible Woman and has the ability to engulf his body in flames and can even fly. He is the young brash hothead (pun intended). His cockiness and attitude get him into trouble with the team and there are stories where he lashes out and leaves the team for a time only to return and help them save the day.
James Harden's game speaks volumes to the Human Torch. There are times when Harden does not seem too interested in what he is doing especially on the defensive end. He can lose focus in the game and he seems to coast at times, but that might be in part because the Rockets rely so much on his offense to get them through the game. In the same way, there is much expected of the Human Torch and if his head is not right he hurts the team.
The addition of Chris Paul is going to test James Harden. Can he deal with being the second ball handler? Will he be okay with a few less shots per game? The Human Torch helped the Fantastic Four defeat amazing villains like Dr. Doom and the Skrulls because of his willingness to work with the other members of the Fantastic Four. James Harden's game is at its best when he is running and gunning getting his teammates involved through pick and rolls and drives and kicks. He is the leader of the team unlike the Human Torch. Mr. Fantastic leads the Fantastic Four and the Human Torch, while important, does not. Chris Paul will be a leader for the Rockets very different from James Harden. He is vocal and he is in your face. Watching James Harden all these years, those are two things he is not.
The Human Torch may leave from time to time, but he always comes back ready to help. James Harden will get frustrated with Chris Paul. It will happen, but what he does after that will determine how successful the Rockets can be. James Harden's ability to score and pass make him an elite offensive player that carried the Rockets to 55 wins. Within those wins were times when Harden got hot and could not miss. With Chris Paul now on the team, the Human Torch has to find a way to continue to help the team while not being afraid to show his true power. If he can do that, the Rockets will be a tough team to beat.
