Tony Allen will turn 36 at the midway point of next season and he is still waiting on a team to offer him a deal. There are teams that have shown interest, according to Hoopshype, that list is the Clippers and the Timberwolves, but I'm not sure if those talks are going anywhere. Tony Allen can still help a team defensively. According to Synergy, he rated out as a Very Good defender, giving up 0.879 points per possession. For a guy that is always going to match up with the best wing player that is pretty good. He still has a knack for avoiding screens and he is tough to get around. He works hard on the defensive end and he loves the challenge of shutting guys down. That is a valuable player to have on your team. Now, Tony Allen is not going to play a huge amount of minutes every game, but in 71 games for the Grizzlies he averaged 27 minutes a game. Unfortunately, he got hurt before the playoffs and the Grizzlies really could have used his defense as they watched Kawhi absolutely torch them game after game.
Despite not being a great offensive player, Tony Allen can help you on offense because he is a great cutter that manages to find his way into open spaces. Any team that likes to space it out with their wings and big man can benefit from a guy like Allen. He is terrible from 3, but Tony Allen is a guy that does not do anything that he knows he cannot do. He is not going to make bad decisions that hurt your team. I cannot believe that a team has not thrown some money his way yet because he will continue to be an elite defender in the NBA. He can help you win games with his defense and that is valuable.
