Shai "Baby I'm Yours"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iOQ3RWngIM
Shai is a great group. For some reason, this song "Baby I'm Yours" is my favorite from them despite how great "If I Ever Fall In Love" is. This song goes to all the players that signed super max contracts this summer, which would be John Wall and Stephen Curry. They are locked up with their teams and are going to be getting big money. The super max contract does not seem to be as much of a deterrent as the league thought it would be though as Kyrie Irving and Paul George both were willing to forfeit their chances at the super max by requesting trades.
Az Yet "Care For Me"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=adkK_W_OETM
Az Yet is an underrated R&B group, but they are quite good. Their big hit was "Last Night," but after I bought the album and listened to it, I fell in love with this song, "Care For Me." This song goes to the New Orleans Pelicans and Anthony Davis. The second verse is great and starts with the line "Nowhere you can run, nowhere you can hide," which I can see the rest of the league saying to New Orleans as they tell them that Anthony Davis is not available. They had better hope that this season goes well and they can re-sign DeMarcus Cousins. If not, they are capped out with a roster that is not good and Anthony Davis is not going to wait around on a crappy team.
Dru Hill "The Love We Had Stays On My Mind"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOa2SRshWEI
Dru Hill is one of the best R&B groups of all time and this song, "The Love We Had Stays On My Mind" is my favorite. Sisqo's second verse says, "That old lonesome feeling, took me by surprise, I guess you meant more to me, than I realized." This song goes to the Boston Celtics, who shipped off Isaiah Thomas to the Cavaliers in exchange for a younger less hip injured Kyrie Irving. The fans in Boston worshiped Thomas, but that did not matter to Danny Ainge, who improved his team through the deal. Even though Kyrie Irving is a better player, Celtics fans will miss the smaller Thomas and how fun it must have been to cheer for him, but hey now they have a point guard that thinks the Earth is flat.
Soul 4 Real "If You Want It"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97Khmdoo0M
Seeing Soul 4 Real you probably assumed I would do Candy Rain, but I like the lesser known stuff and in this case, "If You Want It" is a great song. The chorus says, "If you want it, you can have it, come and get it and I'll be waiting." This song goes to the NBA from the Golden State Warriors. They are the overwhelming favorite to repeat. While other teams tried to get better, the Warriors got much better through the addition of some added scoring punch off the bench. They have their four superstars in tow and it does not look good for the other 29 teams.
Boyz 2 Men "End of the Road"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDKO6XYXioc
The greatest R&B song of all time goes to the greatest player of all time Lebron James. Boyz 2 Men are my favorite R&B group and their song "End of the Road" perfectly captures all of the speculation and conclusions that Lebron is leaving Cleveland after this season and it really is the end of the road for his time in Cleveland. It is also going to be the end of the road for the Cavaliers being a good team. My favorite part of this song is Michael McCary talking midway through the song and I just picture Cavaliers fans talking to Lebron. Lebron, we're here for you, that time in 2010 when you just hurt us and went to Miami, but now you're back and we love you anyway. I hate to say it, but I agree that Lebron is gone after this season.
SWV "You're The One For Me"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=g98E2nLF5xI
The only girl group on the list, SWV was one of my favorites. They could really sing and this song was one of my favorites. This song "You're The One For Me" goes to Jayson Tatum, the rookie from Duke. The Boston Celtics had the number one pick, but like Tatum and knew he would be available at number three so they traded their pick and got more assets to get Tatum, who they are saying could be the next Paul Pierce. I don't know if that is accurate, but they are high on Tatum.
H-Town "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjRXTy-stnI
H-Town is a group that I know about, but I am obsessed with R&B. They were good, but I am not sure that they knew what shirts were. However, one of their better known songs, "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate" goes to all of the NBA players that leave their teams in free agency or via trade. It seems that loyalty in the NBA is only expected from the players, but not the teams or fans. It is an interesting time, where fans burn jerseys and call players cowards for leaving their teams. Kevin Durant gets so much crap from Oklahoma City, but they would love him so much if he came back.
Jodeci "Feenin"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvRKzgw_p1Y
Jodeci's amazing song "Feenin" goes to the Lakers, who cannot contain their love for Paul George. So much so that they were hit with a half million dollar fine for tampering. Paul George is good at basketball and has said that he wants to play for the Lakers and the Lakers want Paul George. I can see Magic Johnson calling Paul George saying, "I can't leave you alone, you got me feenin'." Although the Lakers were fined, I think Magic Johnson could find half a million dollars in his couch cushions and Paul George will go to the Lakers next season.
Blackstreet "Booti Call"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci9HwSXDFHM
I love Blackstreet and I decided to go with one of the more on the nose songs in "Booti Call." This song goes to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who gave up little to get Paul George, but all indications are that he is not going to re-sign next season. However, they could not help themselves to getting Paul George even if it is just for one season. They probably believe that if they can show Paul George how much fun it is to play with Russell Westbrook that he will stay. All he has to do is ask Kevin Durant about that.
Guy "Let's Chill"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwmmnV_bcQU
Guy was a great group that featured the amazing Teddy Riley and also Aaron Hall, who would have some amazing solo success with "I Miss You." However, this song "Let's Chill" was a huge hit and it goes to Chris Paul and James Harden, who quickly became best friends and decided that they wanted to play together and then it happened, "Forever and ever, ever and ever, ever and ever, always." The Houston Rockets continue to amaze with the names that they are able to get whether it is Harden, Dwight Howard, and now Chris Paul. They have a good team and although there will be some kinks to work out, I think they can wreak some havoc in the West.
112 "Love You Like I Did"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7rC0hXBNM8
112 is one of the best R&B groups, but I don't feel they get a lot of love. I think they have some great songs and the group is made up of guys with unique voices. "Love You Like I Did" is one of my favorites and it goes to Lebron James and Kyrie Irving. Kyrie decided to leave the Cavaliers and Lebron has to be thinking that there is no one that is going to help you the way that I helped you in terms of basketball. No one is going to love Kyrie the way that Lebron did and I think that he will have some struggles in Boston. Lebron allowed him to not have the responsibility of being a play maker. Let's be honest, Kyrie can be a bit of a ball hog and although Gordon Hayward will help some with that, he is not Lebron James. Let's hope Kyrie can show some improvement in getting teammates involved.
