Offensively, Green rates out as a Very Good offensive player. Despite being a four, Green did most of his damage offensively in Spot-Up situations. He shot 38% from 3 on 145 attempts. It would not be out of question that he can maintain that percentage with more attempts if he had the chance to get 33-35 minutes a game. He has a nice stroke and gets his shot off quickly. He also got almost 17% of his offense from Offensive Rebound Putbacks. He finished in the top 30 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounding and is efficient after getting the rebound. He can also get up and down the floor well and is a threat in transition. He is not a great post up player, but he attacks mismatches in the post well and can get to the rim. He checks a lot of boxes offensively.
Defensively, Green rates out as an Excellent defensive player. His size allows him to bang in the post and also stay out on the perimeter and keep guards in front of him. He defends most situations well including Spot-Ups and Off Screens. Where teams really should be interested is his coverage of pick and rolls. He handles pick and rolls well whether he deals with the roll man or has to switch onto a guard. When switching onto guards he gives up 0.817 points per possession and only 0.622 points per possession when he deals with the roll man. He doesn't block a lot of shots or get a lot of steals, but he stays in front of his man and he is a smart defender. If you play Golden State, Green can stay on the court and defend. That should be the most important thing.
I'm not a GM, but if I was I would definitely have taken a shot at JaMychal Green to see if Memphis would match. There are so many teams that he could easily play for that it is amazing that he is not signed yet.
